Benzodiazepine, or benzos are prescription drugs that calm the brain, often used for anxiety, sleep, or seizures. Sometimes called nerve pills, benzos are intended for occasional or short-term use—but many people find them hard to quit.
These medications have a moderate to high potential for abuse and dependency, especially with long-term or non-medical use. When this happens, a benzo detox is the practical solution. A medical detox is often necessary when a person is taking a benzo regularly or daily for more than a month.
Examples of Benzodiazepines:
Benzo addiction or dependence requires professional treatment. Withdrawal can be dangerous or even fatal. Any attempt at tapering doses should only happen under a doctor’s oversight, and even then, most people find this very challenging.
At Clear Path Recovery Center, our inpatient benzo detox program helps you safely taper off medications like Xanax, Valium, or Klonopin in a controlled setting. Our team personalizes treatment plans to manage withdrawal symptoms, reduce discomfort, and address underlying issues that can contribute to benzo addiction.
Our Missouri benzo detox provides 24-hour medical supervision, targeted medications for symptom relief, and continuous support to stabilize your body and mind. With safety and comfort as priorities, we help you restore balance and build a strong foundation for ongoing recovery.

Benzo withdrawal is a serious medical condition that can lead to dangerous complications, including seizures, hallucinations, and extreme anxiety. A person who has been using benzos—whether prescribed or misused—should never stop taking them abruptly or “cold turkey” without medical guidance.
Clear Path Recovery Center offers professional monitoring, symptom management, and emotional support to reduce risks and improve comfort during withdrawal. Even people who’ve taken benzos exactly as prescribed may need help tapering off safely, especially after long-term use.
If you or someone you’re with is showing signs of serious benzo withdrawal—such as severe anxiety, confusion, tremors, or seizures—seek immediate medical advice and care. Benzodiazepine withdrawal can be dangerous and should never be underestimated. If there’s any concern about the person’s immediate safety or risk of complications, call 9-1-1 without delay.
When someone struggles with benzodiazepine use disorder, they’re often up against two or three challenges: physical dependence, psychological addiction and sometimes Post-Acute Withdrawal Syndrome (PAWS). A medical detox handles the acute physical symptoms, but comprehensive recovery requires more than just detox.
Three things to consider in your treatment decision:
Even a few months of regular benzo use alters your body, so stopping abruptly or tapering too fast can provoke severe withdrawal—anxiety, tremors, insomnia, sweating, hallucinations or seizures. Our detox program uses a gradual taper and symptom-relief medications to manage these safely, though deeper drivers of use require further treatment.
Beyond the body’s dependence lies a mental fixation. Thoughts, routines, and emotions become centered on obtaining and using benzos or coping with their absence. Cravings and fear of withdrawal fuel relapse long after detox ends.
Lingering withdrawal effects—mood swings, insomnia, concentration problems and anxiety, can sometimes persist for months after a benzo detox. Residential rehab provides evaluation of PAWS symptoms and support, including targeted therapy and extended medical supervision to reduce relapse risk.
Ultimately, detox clears the chemical hurdle. The rehab experience after your detox addresses the mental health aspects of benzo addiction. Learning to recognize triggers, manage emotions, relationships, and daily routines is the key to staying benzo-free and empowered for lasting recovery.
Clear Path Recovery Center is invested in helping people overcome addiction and dependence on benzodiazepines. This is why we offer continuing treatment in our residential rehab program directly following the detox phase.
Our residential benzo addiction program goes beyond stopping use. We employ evidence-based therapies to help you identify personal triggers, and teach healthier coping strategies for anxiety, insomnia, and stress without relying on controlled substances, like Xanax or Klonopin.
As a dual-diagnosis treatment program, we also treat co-occurring mental health conditions such as anxiety disorders, depression, and trauma that often drive benzo misuse. This is crucial for anyone who wants to remain drug-free. Unresolved issues like these are a common cause of relapse.
Why choosing benzo rehab after detox just makes sense:

For patient safety and security, Clear Path must ask that you leave workout supplements, herbal supplements, vitamins and over the counter medication at home. These substances often have ingredients that can interact with medications we may prescribe.
We must also be aware that others may have allergies. We have over the counter medications here for your use, if there’s anything of that nature you require and it’s within your treatment protocol, we will see that you get it.
