Alcohol Detox and Rehab for Alcohol Addiction

An alcohol detox is the first step for anyone who seeks to stop misusing alcohol. Trying to cut down on drinking on your own is a huge challenge for most people. Quitting cold turkey is even harder—and it can be dangerous or even deadly.

A medical detox from alcohol is by far, the smartest way to start solving a drinking problem. It’s far safer and much more comfortable. Treatment for alcoholism also improves your odds of staying sober afterwards, especially if it’s followed by residential treatment. But, first things first.

How Our Alcohol Detox Works

Call and Approval

Transportation to Clear Path

Once admission is approved, the patient is driven to the facility, or picked up by our ground transportation, if necessary. We ask that patients do not drive themselves to the facility.

Admission

The patient is admitted for alcohol detox, fills out their paperwork and sees a detox nurse for immediate assessment.

Medical Detox

The patient rests while detox staff begin their alcohol detox treatment. Over the next +/- 7 days, they will be carefully monitored for complications and the symptoms from alcohol withdrawal will be treated. During the detoxification phase the clinical team will work with the patient to reduce the risk of relapse using an individualized treatment plan and group therapy.

Detox Completion

Once alcohol detox is completed, the patient will be medically stable and able to begin residential treatment, if possible, or continue treatment on an outpatient basis, if they choose.

Why Go To Rehab After an Alcohol Detox?

When a person has an alcohol use disorder (alcoholism), they’re actually dealing with two issues at the same time. Alcohol dependence and alcohol addiction.

  1. Alcohol Dependence
Their body has become physically dependent on alcohol. If they stop drinking for too long, they start to get cold sweats, shakes, anxiety and other symptoms. These symptoms will get worse with time and can be very dangerous.
  2. Alcohol Addiction
The person has developed a mental obsession with alcohol, a psychological dependence. Alcohol has become one of, if not the most important thing in their life. They structure their life around drinking.

Residential Treatment for Alcohol Use Disorder

The first step in getting help for a drinking problem is the medical detox. For safety and comfort, a person must be stabilized soon after (or before) they stop drinking. But, it’s important to understand that an alcohol detox can only solve one of two problems—alcohol dependence.

If a person was addicted to alcohol when they entered detox, they’ll still be just as addicted when they leave.

A Complete Solution for A Complex Problem

Residential alcohol treatment, or rehab is the part of the process that tackles the mental part of this two part issue. Addiction. With alcohol out of the body, and a clearer head, the patient is able to begin working on the mental obsession with alcohol.

This is the key to staying sober after you leave treatment. Recovery is tough. If you want to have a fighting chance—you should accept all the help you can get and follow all the recommendations you can.

What Happens in Alcohol Rehab?

At Clear Path Recovery Center, our residential alcohol treatment program offers a range of addiction therapies. The focus is on helping people understand why they drink, discover their personal triggers and develop healthy coping mechanisms they can use to avoid drinking and drugs.

But that’s just the beginning. We are a dual-diagnosis mental health program as well. This is key, because alcohol abuse is so often intertwined with depression, anxiety or anger. Any alcohol rehab program that doesn’t tackle these issues too is incomplete at best. Diagnosing and treating co-occurring disorders is one of the best ways to help people stay sober longer.

Why going to alcohol rehab after detox makes sense:

  • Just removing the alcohol doesn’t remove the behavior.
  • You’ll get help for co-occurring mental health conditions that can drive addiction.
  • More time in alcohol treatment is proven to increase your odds of staying sober.
  • You will never regret getting more help, but you may regret getting less.

What is an Alcohol Detox?
How Does it Work?

When a person drinks more than a couple of drinks a day, their body becomes used to the presence of alcohol and its sedative effects. When that person suddenly quits, or cuts down dramaticlaly—-their body struggles to adapt. This imbalance in the body is what causes physical alcohol withdrawal.

Clear Path Recovery’s Missouri alcohol detox program offers the safety and security of 24-hour medical supervision during this critical time. We carefully monitor each patient and administer medicines to counteract withdrawal discomfort. We help restore the balance that’s been lost, while keeping you safe and as comfortable as possible.

Before anyone can be admitted to Clear Path Recovery Center, they must:

  1. Have insurance verification and approval (or self-pay)
  2. Have completed a pre-admit phone screening with us.
  3. Have been approved for admission by our Clinical Director

For the safety of patients and staff and legal compliance there will be NO EXCEPTIONS.

The simplest, safest way to admit to Clear Path detox this is to call us first so we can put the wheels in motion for you. If you have a medical emergency, i.e. someone is seizing, overdosing or unresponsive—-CALL 911 immediately.

For patient safety and security, Clear Path must ask that you leave workout supplements, herbal supplements, vitamins and over the counter medication at home. These substances often have ingredients that can interact with medications we may prescribe.

We must also be aware that others may have allergies. We have over the counter medications here for your use, if there’s anything of that nature you require and it’s within your treatment protocol, we will see that you get it.

Remember the reason you or your loved one is here is for medical treatment and help. Every policy we have was put in place with your best interests in mind. We recommend bringing simple, comfortable clothing that’s easy to wash and wear. Revealing clothing is inappropriate and may make others uncomfortable. Leaving jewelry and excess cosmetics at home helps keep things simple and avoid any potential loss, theft or misunderstandings.
